Cava and Cava Grill are proud partners of the National Zoo’s annual fundraiser, ZooFari on May 16! ZooFari has been called D.C.’s “foodie event of the year,” in that it features more than 100 of the area’s finest restaurants. Add fine wines, fabulous entertainment, animal demonstrations, and a great silent auction, all in the wild setting of the Smithsonian’s National Zoo, and you have a great recipe for a delicious evening. Find out more at fonz.org/zoofari.htm.
Every year foodies converge on 8th street in Capitol Hill for the annual taste of 8th event. The money raised is used to help our historic city and serves as an awesome fun day for the community. Cava serves all natural, non gmo, halal lamb chops and the line is down the block. Good times! Come out and join us.
Being involved in our community is one of the most special things we love about being in this business. From all the fundraisers and food donations we do to help organizations as small as the local school, or as big as the national zoo. One of the most fun and gratifying experiences was our recent time spent at DC Central Kitchen. Chef Dimitri was given the opportunity to teach local chefs of the kitchen and it was a great day. Everyone got the chance to learn how to make spanakopita from scratch. In our next blog feature we will go over how to make this simple recipe at home!
This Saturday at Martha's Table event Sips and Sup, Chef Dimitri will be serving a charred baby octopus with a fava puree, topped with shaved fennel. It will be paired with a chilled cucumber & fennel infused ouzo. Cava will also be serving our dips and spreads! Tickets are going fast and plenty of chefs will be there including Jose Andres, Joan Nathan and Alice Waters.
Our very own Chef Dimitri will be participating in a 3 part teaching course this Wednesday at DC Central Kitchen. He will be instructing students on how to make a traditional Greek spanakopita. DC Central Kitchen provides solutions to poverty, hunger and poor health through job training, healthy food distribution and local farm partnerships. Chef Dimitri is just one of many local DC chefs helping students learn how to make cultural dishes and share career and life advice.
This week at Cava we are working on what we call donation week! Mailing out gift cards to all the schools, churches, organizations who help support us throughout the year. This year we will also be providing food for some inauguration events. We are also working on some seasonal menu changes as sadly, some of our vegetables will be leaving us. I will dive into the menu changes next blog post. For now this was our 1st blog attempt, so if there is something interesting you are looking to hear or see, please let us know at email@example.com
